❓ How do you recognise this plant?

The strawberry is not a true botanical fruit: it is the swollen, sweet flower receptacle; the true fruits are the small yellow achenes on its surface. The wild strawberry has much smaller fruits and finer foliage — the garden strawberry has been selected for large fruits.
🍃 Leaves
Trifoliate, toothed, bright green, in a basal rosette
🌸 Flowers
White, with 5 petals, grouped in cymes above the foliage
🍎 Fruits
Fleshy, sweet false fruit (the strawberry), red when ripe, with achenes on the surface
🪵 Bark
Herbaceous stoloniferous plant, no woody stem; spreads by runners
🗺️ Distribution
Grown throughout France; garden hybrid from a cross between two American species
🐝 Value for pollinators
Honey-producing flowers, visited by bees; good pollination improves the shape of the fruit
✂️ Horticultural uses
Vegetable-garden plant grown for its fruit; multiplies easily by runners
