Floraneo is a free app that teaches you to recognise 685 trees, shrubs and plants of France on your own, with short lessons and quizzes on real photos. Every species has its own profile (leaves, bark, fruit, habitat, the species it gets confused with) and you remember it through quizzes and daily reviews.
In Floraneo, species are grouped into short lessons, from the most familiar to the rarest. You discover them on real photos, then practise with quizzes. The app regularly makes you review the species you still mix up, and each profile lists the features that tell them apart.
No. Floraneo doesn't scan your photo: it teaches you to recognise plants yourself. To identify an unknown plant on the spot, an identification app like PlantNet is built for that. The two complement each other.
Yes, you can start for free: the species Pokédex, the plant of the day, the daily challenge, the first lesson units and daily reviews are all available without paying. An optional Premium subscription unlocks every unit, unlimited practice and the harder modes.
No. Floraneo works directly in your browser, on a phone or a computer, and can be added to your home screen.
685 species you can come across in France: trees, shrubs, garden perennials, herbaceous plants, grasses and ferns.
No. The profiles are for educational purposes. Never eat a wild plant on the basis of an app alone: some toxic species look very much like edible ones.
Floraneo is an independent project, created and published by Thomas Poirson. There are no ads and no data resale: the app is free to start, and the optional Premium subscription funds its development. The photos come from contributors (Tela Botanica, Wikimedia Commons…) and are credited one by one, with their licence.
